Biography

Jochen Jaeger is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography, Planning, and Environment at Concordia University. He completed his PhD in Environmental Sciences at the ETH Zurich in 2000. After his doctoral studies, he worked at the Centre of Technology Assessment in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and lectured at the University of Stuttgart. His postdoctoral research was conducted in the Landscape Ecology Laboratory at Carleton University, under Dr. Lenore Fahrig. Jaeger's research focuses primarily on landscape ecology and road ecology, exploring the quantification and assessment of landscape structure changes, urban sprawl, ecological modelling, and environmental impact assessments. He is part of several professional affiliations, including the International Association of Landscape Ecology and the International Association for Impact Assessment. He has received numerous awards and grants, including the Dean's New Scholar Award at Concordia University in 2010 and the Sustainable Champion Award in 2022. His research lab is dedicated to studying the impacts of urbanization on biodiversity and ecosystem processes, with an emphasis on developing practical solutions for mitigating these impacts through innovative approaches and community engagement.
