Dr. Jochen Koenemann

Biography

Jochen Koenemann is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Combinatorics & Optimization at the University of Waterloo. He earned his Ph.D. in Algorithms, Combinatorics & Optimization from Carnegie Mellon University in 2003, where he developed a robust background in algorithmic design and analysis. Following his doctoral studies, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at La Sapienza University in Rome. Koenemann's research focuses on various aspects of combinatorial optimization, particularly approximation algorithms and algorithmic game theory. His work includes significant contributions to the field through publications and participation in prominent program committees. He has been involved in various conferences, including EC, APPROX, and IPCO, showcasing his expertise in algorithmic game theory and optimization techniques. He teaches multiple courses related to combinatorial optimization, game theory, and network flows, encouraging students to engage with complex algorithmic problems.
