Biography

Jock Herron is a Design Critic in Architecture at Harvard Graduate School of Design, focusing on food systems and health. He co-led the Smart Cities Wellness project sponsored by Humana Corporation and has contributed to the Responsive Environments Artifacts Lab at GSD. Jock served as an original Steering Committee member of the Worcester County Food Hub Initiative and is an early supporter of rotational grazing businesses in Central Massachusetts. He manages family farms in southern Ohio, dealing in grains, gravel, lumber, and solar energy. Additionally, he chairs the Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research and believes in the importance of food systems as a nexus for population, habitat, and health. Jock has published three book chapters on sustainability alongside professors at Harvard Business School and has written an article on rapid test diagnostics in Tanzania. He is also the co-founder and senior managing director of Tidepool Press and a partner at a global investment firm. Jock co-founded BT Ventures, an educational software company with over 400 institutional clients across four continents. Recently, he has co-taught a Collaborative Design Engineering Studio focusing on technology, society, and environment, advising second-year students on independent design projects.
