Biography

Jodi S. Balsam is a Professor of Clinical Law at Brooklyn Law School and a nationally recognized expert in Sports Law. She teaches Sports Law and has held teaching positions at New York Law School, the University of New Hampshire School of Law, Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany, and Mathias Corvinus Collegium in Budapest, Hungary. Additionally, she is involved in the MESGO Executive Masters Program in Global Sport Governance and is the founding director of the Sports Law Externship Course and the Sports Law Clinic at Brooklyn Law School. Balsam's scholarship addresses a range of topics including antitrust challenges faced by sports leagues, the rights of athletes in terms of free expression, likeness exploitation, sports gambling integrity, and governance within sports leagues. She frequently appears in media discussing legal issues in sports, contributing to platforms such as NBC Sports and ESPN, and is a member of several editorial boards including Law360-Sports & Betting. Balsam has also served as an arbitrator for the National Collegiate Athletic Association and provides insights on cases involving college athletics. Prior to her academic career, she worked as Counsel for Operations Litigation at the National Football League, overseeing litigation in various areas of law and managing significant operational policies. Balsam began her legal career as a litigation attorney at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where she represented clients in the sports and entertainment sectors.
