Biography

Jodi came to the Schulich School of Law as the 2014-2015 Schulich Fellow part-time faculty member appointed assistant professor in 2017. She holds a Doctor of Civil Law from McGill University. Before her academic career, Jodi worked in small to large private practices and completed her articles as a law clerk for the Honourable Mr. Justice Michael Moldaver at the Supreme Court of Canada. She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and was appointed associate dean (academic) at the Schulich School of Law in 2024. Her research primarily focuses on family law, examining both the economic and non-economic consequences of family breakdown and the judicial reliance on the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines, as well as the theoretical bases of spousal support obligations and the law surrounding retroactive child support, with particular attention to effects on women and children. In the field of nonhuman animal law, she has written legal models regarding companion animal ownership and is currently investigating the constitutional dimensions of animal rights activism and the constitutionality of Canadian ag-gag legislation.
