Dr. Jody Freeman

Biography

Jody Freeman is the Archibald Cox Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and the Director of the Environmental Energy Law Program. Recognized as a leading scholar in administrative and environmental law, Freeman served as Counselor for Energy and Climate Change in the Obama White House from 2009 to 2010. She played a pivotal role in developing landmark regulations to enhance fuel efficiency standards for the U.S. auto industry. Freeman has also been actively involved in climate policy, contributing to President Biden's climate action plan during the transition period. She is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and serves on the Advisory Board for the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund NBIM. As an influential voice in the field, Freeman frequently speaks on climate and environmental law issues and has published extensively, including the co-edited book 'Global Climate Change and U.S. Law,' reflecting her expertise in climate regulation and judicial review. Freeman founded the Environmental Energy Law Program at Harvard, fostering interdisciplinary research on climate and energy policy, and established the law school's environmental law clinic.
