Joe is a PhD student in Westervelt’s Aerosol group at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia Climate School. He holds a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Ghana and a Master’s degree in Computer Science focused on Applied Climate Change from the University of Ouagadougou in partnership with the University of Wurzburg, Germany, where he graduated in the top 1% of his class. Joe's research interests include aerosols, air pollution, and climate modeling. He currently investigates the impact of global aerosol reductions on climate variables across regions such as Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East through the Regional Aerosol Model Intercomparison Project. Joe employs climate models including NASA GISS ModelE and CMIP6 models, and his research also centers on using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to estimate air pollution concentrations in West African cities. Outside of academia, Joe enjoys traveling and exploring large cities.
