Biography

Joe joined the University of Southampton in 2023 as an Associate Professor in Employment Law. He previously lectured in Law at the University of Sheffield and has taught at University College London, the University of Oxford, and Queen Mary University of London. Joe completed his PhD at University College London and holds law degrees from the University of Oxford and the London School of Economics. He has served as a visiting scholar at New York University School of Law and the Surrey Centre for Law and Philosophy. Joe's scholarly work has been published in respected journals such as the Modern Law Review and the European Labour Law Journal, and his research has been cited by courts in Ireland, New Zealand, and Jamaica. Additionally, Joe has practical experience in academia, having worked as a Senior Researcher and Political Advisor for Labour MPs, focusing on legislative policy matters. His current research explores the regulation of new workplace technologies and their impact on workers’ rights, as well as the intersection of employment law and human rights. Joe is also involved in the Labour Law section of the Society of Legal Scholars and is a trustee for the Southampton Advice & Representation Centre. He welcomes inquiries from prospective PhD students interested in related areas of research.
