Dr. Joe Cutbirth

Biography

Joe Cutbirth is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Communication Studies at The University of Texas at Austin. His teaching and research focus on social practice, leadership in public life, and interpersonal relationships. He teaches and supervises student work in the Ethics Leadership concentration of the UT Bridging Disciplines Program. He is a founding faculty member of the UT Center for Ethical Leadership Media and serves on its curriculum advisory board. His work has been published in notable outlets such as Ethnography Matters and Media Ethics, as well as in the Handbook of Intellectual Freedom. Additionally, Dr. Cutbirth has taught at several prestigious institutions, including Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, New York University, Manhattan College, the University of Virginia, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Houston. He holds a Ph.D. in communications from Columbia University, an M.A. in communication, culture and technology from Georgetown University, and a B.J. in public relations from The University of Texas at Austin.
