Biography

Joseph Nocera joined the Faculty of Forestry & Environmental Management at the University of New Brunswick in July 2016 as an Associate Professor. His academic focus centers on wildlife management and ecology, particularly regarding endangered species and forest wildlife. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Connecticut State, a Master of Science in Biology from Acadia University, and a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of New Brunswick, focusing on grassland birds. Between 2008 and 2016, Dr. Nocera worked as a Research Scientist for Species-at-Risk at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry while also serving as a regular graduate faculty member at Trent University. His dual roles provided him with experience in bridging fundamental wildlife science with applied purposes in policy-making. His research employs an integrative approach to address cross-disciplinary questions in population ecology, using field experiments and extensive datasets to study wildlife-habitat relationships. He focuses on field studies of birds and mammals within forested ecosystems and has addressed conservation issues across various habitat types. In his personal time, he enjoys painting, archery, and outdoor activities such as rock and fossil collecting.
