Biography

Joe C. Ontiveros is a Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he also taught in the Division of Esthetic Dentistry. He furthered his education by earning a Master's degree in Oral Biomaterials from the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Houston. Dr. Ontiveros has authored numerous publications concerning esthetic biomaterials and has contributed to multiple textbooks, including 'Paravina & Powers’ Esthetic Color Training Dentistry,' 'Greenwall’s Tooth Whitening Techniques,' and 'Studevant’s Art & Science Operative Dentistry.' He is recognized as the John M. Powers, Endowed Distinguished Professor of Oral Biomaterials and serves as the Head of Esthetic Dentistry at UT Health School of Dentistry. Additionally, Dr. Ontiveros is the Director of the Oral Biomaterials Division for the Houston Center for Biomaterials and Biomimetic and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry as well as a Vice President and Fellow of the Society for Color Appearance.
