Biography

Joel Akinwumi teaches African World Literatures in the Department of World Languages and Literatures and the Department of French at Simon Fraser University. His current research focuses on the depiction of historical forgetting in six postcolonial African and Caribbean novels. His latest articles have appeared in journals such as Nouvelles Etudes Francophones and Alternative Francophone. Akinwumi received his Ph.D. in French Studies from the University of British Columbia and has a robust teaching background, having taught at Corpus Christi College in Vancouver. He is the recipient of the 2021 François-Paré Award for a paper presented as an emerging scholar at an international conference organized by the Association des Professeur.e.s des littératures acadienne et québécoise de l’Atlantique.
