Biography

Joël Castonguay-Bélanger holds an M.A. from McGill University and a joint PhD from Université de Montréal and Université Paris IV-Sorbonne. He has served as an assistant professor at the University of British Columbia since 2009, after a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University. His research primarily focuses on eighteenth-century France, particularly in relation to literary and scientific discourses. He is an associate member of the Centre de Recherche Interuniversitaire en Sociocritique des Textes (CRIST) and has published articles in various academic journals including Études françaises and Eighteenth-Century Fiction. In 2010, he was appointed as an Early Career Scholar at the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies at UBC. His teaching and research interests include 18th-century French literature, Enlightenment history, and the intersection of science and literature, with ongoing projects on critical editions and significant literary works from that period.
