Biography

Joel Feuer is a Professor of Practice at UCLA School of Law and the Executive Director of the Lowell Milken Institute for Business Law and Policy. He has had a distinguished legal career, serving as a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP from 1989 to 2014. Throughout his career, he has handled a broad range of complex business law matters, providing counsel to corporations, directors, and officers on corporate governance issues and transactions. Feuer previously served as co-chair of the litigation department at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's Los Angeles Century City offices, and he was a leader in the firm's securities litigation practice group. He has also acted as a member of the firm's Office of General Counsel. Professor Feuer graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree from Pomona College in 1976 and received a first-class honours degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from the University College, Oxford, in 1978. He earned his J.D. degree from UC Berkeley School of Law in 1981, where he was the Supreme Court Editor of the California Law Review. During his law school years, Feuer clerked for United States District Court Judge Pamela Rymer from April 1983 to September 1984. The Lowell Milken Institute, established in 2011 through a $10 million gift from UCLA Law alumnus Lowell Milken, influences the field of business law and policy through innovative research and targeted policy analysis while preparing UCLA School of Law students to become leaders in an entrepreneurial economy.
