Dr. Joel Gagnon

Biography

Joel Gagnon is a Professor at the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research, University of Windsor, where he leads the Element Heavy Isotope Analytical Laboratories. His expertise lies in analytical applied environmental chemistry and geochemistry, with a focus on developing and applying analytical methods such as quadropole multicollector mass spectrometry and laser ablation techniques for elemental isotope analysis. He conducts extensive research on environmental forensics, hydrothermal mineral deposits, and the geochemical processes within aqueous systems. Joel has a robust educational background, holding a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Geology from the University of Windsor and a Ph.D. in Geology from McGill University. He is committed to training the next generation of scientists and is currently seeking motivated students for M.Sc. and Ph.D. research opportunities that engage with metal cycling in various environments. His labs are equipped with state-of-the-art femtosecond laser ablation systems.
