Dr. Joel Neal

Biography

Joel Neal, MD, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Stanford Cancer Institute, specializing in thoracic oncology. He completed his medical education at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Neal has an extensive clinical focus on non-small cell lung cancer and malignant mesothelioma, actively working in clinical trials involving targeted therapies and immunotherapy. He has published numerous articles in leading journals such as Lancet Oncology and Nature Medicine. His research interests include the design and conduct of clinical trials utilizing novel therapies, particularly focusing on targeted therapies for specific mutations in cancers and the emerging field of immunotherapy. As a member of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, Dr. Neal also serves as a study chair for the thoracic core committee of the ECOG-ACRIN cooperative group, frequently presenting at annual meetings of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Furthermore, he holds the position of Medical Director at the Stanford Comprehensive Cancer Center, coordinating projects aimed at improving patient care through the use of electronic health records and enhancing provider efficiency.
