Biography

Joel Priddy is an award-winning illustrator and cartoonist, known for his graphic novels including 'Pulpatoon: Pilgrimage', 'Preposterous Voyages IronHide Tom', and 'Gift Magi'. He has taught design, illustration, and sequential art at Virginia Commonwealth University, Memphis College of Art, and Penn State University. He was appointed as the head of the Department of Graphic Design on July 1, 2024. Priddy holds an M.F.A. in Illustration Visual Essay from the School of Visual Art and a B.F.A. in Communication Arts Design from Virginia Commonwealth University. His teaching portfolio includes courses such as Introduction to Graphic Storytelling, Craft Comics, and various Graphic Design classes. Priddy has also been recognized for his work in film festivals, with his work 'Long, Slow Flight Ashbot' being selected for multiple festivals including the Boston Sci-Film Festival and Berlin Short Film Festival. He has received several nominations for prestigious awards such as the Eisner and Ignatz awards for his contributions to the comic book and graphic novel industry.
