Biography

My research interests lie in the design and development of advanced optical imaging systems. By integrating modern computational techniques with classical optical design principles, I aim to push the boundaries of imaging performance—delivering a higher space-bandwidth product for imaging in extended fields of view. These innovations have broad applications across various sectors including medicine, biology, and space exploration. Currently, my focus is on retinal imaging, where the ability to image the eye with high fidelity is critical for diagnosing diseases that lead to vision loss and blindness. Through the combination of computational imaging and novel optical design, I have developed a camera capable of imaging 82% of the retina—over 10 times more than conventional fundus cameras typically found in high street opticians. This system corrects for field-dependent aberrations introduced by the eye, achieving sub-20 micron resolution across the entire field—something that existing cameras currently cannot match.
