Biography

Johan Heilbron is a historical sociologist trained at the University of Amsterdam and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. He is currently a guest professor at the Centre for Higher Education Research Objects Study (HERO) within the Department of History of Science and Ideas at Uppsala University. Heilbron is also a regular member of the Centre européen de sociologie et de science politique (CESSP-CNRS-EHESS) in Paris. His research areas encompass the historical development of social human sciences, economic organizations and institutions, as well as transnational exchange and cultural globalization. His notable book publications include "Rise of Social Theory" (1995), "Rise of Social Sciences: Formation of Modernity" (co-edited, 2001), and "Transnational Cultural Exchange and Globalization" (2010), among others. His work significantly contributes to understanding the dynamics of social sciences in historical contexts.
