Johan Maljaars is a Full Professor in the Chair of Aluminium Structures at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His expertise lies in the structural performance of aluminium structures, with a focus on fatigue and fracture in metal structures as well as the structural fire resistance of aluminium. Johan's research interests encompass advanced steel and aluminium structures, fatigue and fracture mechanics, structural design, joining technology, and computational mechanics. He aims to develop practical models that yield optimal responses in design practices. Johan obtained his MSc cum laude in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology in 2001 and began his professional career at TNO, where he currently serves as a Principal Scientist in metal structures. Between 2004 and 2008, he held a combined PhD position at TU/e, receiving honors for his work. In 2014, he was appointed as a full professor in the Structural Design unit of the Department of the Built Environment. His current research focuses on the reliability of fatigue-loaded bridges and wind turbine structures, and he actively publishes in journals such as the International Journal of Fatigue and Thin-Walled Structures.
