Johan O. Robertsson is a Professor of Applied Geophysics and the head of the Exploration Environmental Geophysics (EEG) Group at the Institute of Geophysics in the Department of Earth Sciences at ETH Zurich since 2012. He was born in Lund, Sweden, and completed his MSc in engineering physics at Uppsala University, Sweden, in 1991. He continued his studies at Rice University, Texas, where he earned his PhD in Geophysics in 1994. His research focuses on the physics of wave propagation in complex media, as well as the modeling, inversion, acquisition, and processing of seismic data for exploration and environmental geophysics applications. He has received numerous accolades, including the SEG Honorary Lecturer in Europe in 2020 and the EAGE Guido Bonarelli Award in the same year, marking significant contributions to his field. Furthermore, he has been awarded many paper prizes at international geophysical conferences and secured multiple major grants throughout his career.
