Biography

Professor Schot’s research is focused on impact-driven interdisciplinary studies that aim to accelerate long-term system change towards sustainability. He is a network-builder who connects interdisciplinary research teams, policy-makers, investors, governments, NGOs, and corporate actors. In November 2022, he initiated a collaboration involving historians and sustainability transition scholars, leading to the publication of a Transformative Investment Philosophy. This philosophy introduces new principles and tools for financing long-term system changes that foster deep transitions toward sustainability. His contributions also include founding the Deep Transitions research project and serving as the Academic Director of the Transformative Innovation Policy Consortium (TIPC) and Director of the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex Business School. Recently, in October 2023, he launched the Deep Transitions Lab, which focuses on establishing a niche finance industry aimed at scaling impactful projects while addressing root causes of unsustainable practices and social inequality.
