Biography

Johann L. Hurink received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Osnabrück, Germany, in 1992, with his thesis focusing on scheduling problems occurring in the area of public transport. Afterward, he worked as an assistant professor from 1992 to 1998, developing local search methods for complex scheduling problems, which culminated in his Habilitation thesis at the University of Osnabrück in 1999. He continued as an assistant associated professor in the group of Discrete Mathematics and Mathematical Programming at the University of Twente from 1998 to 2009. In 2009, he became a full professor and has been the Director of the 4TU Applied Mathematics Institute (AMI) since 2020. Hurink has published over 190 refereed papers in international journals and conferences and has been involved in numerous European and national research projects. His current research primarily focuses on optimization and control problems related to energy management in smart grids, with expertise in Computer Science, Algorithms, Control Models, Simulation, and Case Study Engineering, particularly in Energy Management and Microgrid Organizations.
