Biography

Johanna Elumn is an Assistant Professor at Yale School of Medicine in General Internal Medicine, where she also serves as the Director of the NYKS Justice Lab and is a core faculty member of the SEICHE Center for Health and Justice. Her work focuses on the intersection of incarceration, sleep, and health disparities, employing community-engaged research approaches and mixed methods. Current projects emphasize sleep health among individuals impacted by incarceration and related health outcomes. Elumn's expertise includes leading interdisciplinary teams and training community members with histories of incarceration to work as part of research teams. Prior to her research career, she dedicated ten years to leading the social work unit at a community-based public defender’s office, where her work was concentrated on designing, implementing, and evaluating services for individuals involved at various stages of the criminal legal system, from pre-arrest to reentry. Elumn has been awarded the NIMH Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Yale School of Public Health.
