Biography

Johanna Fabricius is a Professor at the Institute for Classical Archaeology at Freie Universität Berlin. She studied Classical Archaeology, Latin Philology, and Provincial Roman Archaeology at the universities of Munich and Bonn, obtaining her Magister Artium from Ludwig Maximilians University Munich in 1990 and completing her doctorate there in 1992. She has held various positions, including a postdoctoral scholarship at the University of Cologne and scientific assistant roles at Georg-August-University Göttingen. Fabricius achieved Habilitation in 2004 and has been a professor since 2006. Her research focuses on the archaeology of Greek necropoleis, cultural and mental history of Hellenistic cities, Greek and Roman sculpture, body history, gender studies, and linguistics. She has been actively involved in numerous research projects, including the examination of descent structures in Greek necropoleis and the contextualization of ancient sculptures. Fabricius has authored multiple monographs and has led significant projects aimed at enhancing the understanding of ancient cultures.
