Biography

Johanna Hjalmarsson is an Associate Professor of Maritime Commercial Law at the University of Southampton. Her research focuses on maritime commercial law, insurance law, and dispute resolution. As an editor for Lloyd's Law Reports and Lloyd’s Law Reporter, she has a significant presence in the field. Johanna has edited Lloyd's Shipping Trade Law for many years and has taken a keen interest in jurisdictions undergoing comprehensive development. Johanna completed her doctoral thesis on fraudulent insurance claims in English law in 2016, and her publications have been cited by courts in Singapore, Australia, and Law Commissions in England, Wales, and Scotland. She has received multiple accolades, including the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2009 and again in 2011. In her early career, Johanna served as a junior judge in Sweden and has a strong background in supporting law reform for international organizations, including years as a legal advisor at the UN Office of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
