Biography

Johanna works as an Associate Professor in Responsible Energy Futures and Responsible Innovations. She is interested in the social and political justice dynamics embedded in the design and use of governance innovations, focusing mainly on studying the innovation efforts within the field of energy transitions. Her research places particular emphasis on engagement and participation of citizens, examining how local dynamics shape and reflect broader socio-energy orders and futures. Johannas academic journey includes holding master's degrees in International Relations from Dresden University of Technology and Science and Technology Studies from Maastricht University. She wrote her PhD dissertation within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Maastricht University on the topic of "Power to the People? Civic Engagement in Small-scale Hydroelectric Plants in India." Since joining TU/e in 2012, as a member of the Technology, Innovation & Society group, she has made significant contributions to the academic community. She was also recognized nationally as the “Lecturer of the Year” in 2020 for her innovative teaching engagements.
