Biography

Johanna H. Slot joined Penn State in January 2014 after receiving her PhD in Marketing from Tilburg University in the Netherlands. Her research concentrates on open innovation strategies and interfirm relationships, addressing new product development and engaging customers, suppliers, and competitors through crowdsourcing and crowdfunding. Her work has been recognized with awards such as the ISBM Doctoral Dissertation Support Award and the Paper Award at the World Open Innovation Conference at UC Berkeley, including a finalist position for the Jack Meredith Paper Award in the Journal of Operations Management. Johanna leads the Marketing Department in retail initiatives and maintains strong collaborations with the National Retail Federation Foundation and retailers. She manages the Jacobs Fellows Program for seniors interested in luxury retail and high-end fashion. Additionally, Johanna represents the faculty on the Penn State Senate, serving on the Curricular Affairs subcommittee from 2021 to 2025. Before her academic career, she worked as a business consultant at Ordina Management Consulting in the Netherlands, where she developed marketing strategies across various industries, and actively conducted market research for Research International and Air Berlin.
