Biography

Johanna joined the faculty at Western University in 2012 after spending four years at the Sobey School of Business, Saint Mary's University in Halifax. She is cross-appointed in the Industrial/Organizational Psychology area and supervises graduate students. Johanna is also an affiliate in the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies at Western. Her research focuses on labor and employment relations, particularly within the video game industry, exploring workplace citizenship, representation, unionization, and working conditions. She has published extensively on topics such as workplace learning for computer programmers, labor representation on pension boards, pregnancy leave policies, and the role of labor relations officers. Furthermore, Johanna has served as Past President of the Canadian Industrial Relations Association and is a member of the Executive Committee for the International Labour and Employment Relations Association. She is active in research networks such as the Interuniversity Research Centre on Globalization and Work and engages in various academic publications and initiatives regarding quality of work life in the digital game industry.
