Biography

Johannes Abeler is a Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford and a Supernumerary Fellow at St Anne's College. He completed his PhD in Economics at the University of Bonn and subsequently moved to the University of Nottingham before joining Oxford in 2011. His teaching primarily focuses on Behavioural Economics and Public Economics. His research interests encompass the economic effects of honesty, complexity, disappointment, fairness, and fungibility. In August 2024, he was appointed Head of the Department of Economics. He has been recognized for his significant contributions to the field, including receiving the ESRC Research Grant and the Schmolders Prize in 2019 for his work in Behavioural Economics.
