Biography

Johannes Gräff, born in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Lausanne and developed a strong interest in neuroscience and psychology during his year at the University of British Columbia. He focused on the genetic causes of aging in ants for his M.Sc. thesis. He obtained his Ph.D. in Neurosciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, specializing in neuroepigenetic mechanisms that regulate learning and memory. Gräff's postdoctoral work at MIT investigated the involvement of epigenetic machinery in cognitive decline and neurodegeneration. He joined EPFL in 2013 as an assistant professor and became an associate professor in 2020. He is a founding member of the FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence, and his research includes key contributions to understanding neurodegenerative diseases.
