Dr. Johannes Niehoff Panagiotidis

Biography

Johannes Niehoff-Panagiotidis is a Professor of Byzantine Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. He holds a Master's degree and a doctorate from the University of Tübingen, where his dissertation focused on the subjects of Koine and Diglossia. Alongside his academic qualifications, he has gained extensive experience as a research associate and lecturer at various institutions including the University of Freiburg and Central European University in Budapest. His research intersects literature, language, art, and culture of the Eastern Roman Empire, highlighting the complexities within Byzantine historiography and Jewish relations. He has been awarded fellowships for various research projects and has taught classes on Byzantine literature. His current research interests include editing medieval texts and exploring interfaith dialogues between Jews and Christians in historical contexts. He is involved in the Mediterranean Language Review and has produced an array of publications examining Byzantine and Jewish interactions. His work contributes significantly to understanding the cultural and historical nuances of the Byzantine and late antique world.
