Johannes Ungerer is a Senior Research Lecturer in the Faculty of Law and an Associate Research Fellow of St Hilda’s College, University of Oxford. He teaches German Law and offers seminars and tutorials on Conflict Laws, Comparative Law, and European Business Regulation. He has been actively involved in organizing conferences on private international and comparative law and is currently preparing for a conference scheduled for April 2026. Ungerer welcomes new MPhil/DPhil proposals and supervises graduate students. In addition to his academic roles, he acts as a Personal Tutor and Academic Advisor for undergraduate exchange programmes while also serving as an expert in foreign law for legal practitioners in the UK. Before his permanent appointment at Oxford in 2019, he taught and researched at the University of Bonn, where he completed his PhD summa cum laude in the area of the law of damages. He graduated with a German State Exam LL.M.oec., a master's degree in business economic law, and has qualified for the German judiciary bar.
