Biography

Professor Johannes Weickenmeier is a Professor of Brain Health in the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of St. Cross College. He obtained his PhD from ETH Zurich in 2015 and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Stanford University. He served as an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology from 2018 to 2024. His expertise lies in designing theoretical computational models to simulate and predict the multiphysics behavior of living systems, with a particular focus on understanding the damage mechanisms associated with healthy aging, neurodegenerative diseases, and traumatic brain injuries. He is a founding member of the Center for Neuromechanics at Stevens and served as its Director from 2022 to 2024. He has received multiple awards, including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2024 for his research contributions and efforts to promote undergraduate research.
