Johannes Wolfart joined the Faculty of Carleton University in 2007. He previously served as an assistant professor at the Centre for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto from 1994 to 1999, and from 1999 to 2007, he held the position of assistant/associate professor in the Department of Religion at the University of Manitoba. He has also been a Senior Fellow at St. John’s College and served a term as President of the Carleton University Academic Staff Association. His research interests focus on Early Modern Christianity, particularly lesser-known varieties of Protestantism, as well as the historiography of these lesser-known Protestants, often referred to as “confessional” historiography. He is also interested in the phenomena of “religious riots” and “religious violence.” Currently, he is working on a book manuscript that chronicles the seventeenth-century German Protestants and their unique perspectives. His notable publications include works on the political culture of Early Modern Germany and critiques of current historiographical paradigms in religious studies.
