Biography

John-Paul (JP) J Yu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he also directs the Neuroradiology Fellowship program and serves as an Associate Director of the UW Medical Scientist Training Program and the UW Center for Health Disparities Research. Dr. Yu's academic journey began with a medical degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and culminated in a PhD in Biophysics and Computational Biology. Since joining the department in August 2015, he has been leading a systems neuroscience laboratory at the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research. His research focuses on several interrelated themes, including the impact of genetics and environmental factors on brain microstructure in relation to neurocognitive and neuropsychiatric illnesses, the clinical application and methodology improvements in diffusion-weighted MRI for diagnosis and outcome tracking, and the development of MR-PET neuroimaging techniques to detect and characterize microglial-driven neuroinflammation and synaptic loss associated with neurological and psychiatric diseases.
