Biography

John-Paul Zonneveld is a Professor in the Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta. His research primarily focuses on sedimentology, palaeoecology, and palaeontology. Zonneveld's projects are often multidisciplinary and address complex issues involving the interaction of geological and biological systems. He has worked on mixed clastic-carbonate sedimentology in Middle Triassic successions in western Canada and has explored Triassic arid coastal depositional successions. His work also includes research on the sedimentology of Lower Triassic tight gas intervals in western Canada and the application of ichnology in understanding the Permian-Triassic extinction event and subsequent biotic recovery. Additionally, he has examined the sedimentologic and stratigraphic evolution of Early to Middle Eocene successions in the Green River Basin, Wyoming, and studied ichnology and sedimentology in modern, macro-tidal, dissipative shoreface environments on Vancouver Island. His research extends to Paleogene-Quaternary paleontology in the islands of Southeast Asia, focusing particularly on regions such as Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Timor.
