Dr. John Ainsworth

Biography

John Ainsworth has a conventional academic career with a diverse educational background including a BSc in Physics, an MSc in Cognitive Science, and a PhD in Health Informatics. Before embarking on his academic journey, he accumulated ten years of experience in the industry, working with companies such as Bell Northern Research, Cisco Systems, and PA Consulting Group, where he held various roles in research and development focusing on telecommunications and data networking. John is now the Head of the Division of Informatics, Imaging, and Data Science at the University of Manchester. His research interests lie at the intersection of information technology and healthcare, emphasizing the application of computing technology to enhance data science and improve health services. He is actively involved in developing and commercializing research through spin-out companies, such as North West eHealth and CareLoop Health, and is a fellow of the British Computer Society and a member of the UK Council for Health Informatics Professions.
