Biography

John Alcaraz earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California, San Diego, in 1988. He joined the Graduate School of Public Health (GSPH) faculty as a lecturer in biostatistics in Fall 1993 and became an assistant professor in 1997, and then an associate professor in 2003. His research has focused on promoting exercise and nutrition among children and young adult populations. Alcaraz has specialized in the study of exact statistical tests that are useful in situations where traditional parametric tests are not applicable. He is also set to develop an advanced topics course that will explore the applications of these exact tests in analyzing epidemiological data.
