Dr. John Amatruda

Biography

John Amatruda is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine with extensive experience in the field of endocrinology and metabolism. He received his BA from Yale University and his MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin. Completing his internship and residency in medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Amatruda furthered his training with a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His illustrious career spans over 50 years in the practice and teaching of medicine. He has spent 15 years at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, where he served as a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Clinical Research Center. Dr. Amatruda's experience includes a significant role as Senior Vice President and Franchise Head of Diabetes and Obesity at Merck Research Laboratories, managing the development of major drug compounds such as Januvia™ and Janumet™. His research focuses on metabolic disorders, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and lipid disorders like fatty liver disease, with a particular interest in the mechanisms and consequences of insulin resistance. In addition to his academic roles, he has served as a scientific consultant for various pharmaceutical companies and holds numerous advisory positions. He has co-authored 160 publications and is recognized for his contributions to clinical research and education.
