Biography

John Arnold has been associated with the National Centre for Australian Studies since its foundation in 1989. He served as the Director of NCAS and was the Head of the School of Political and Social Inquiry from September 2001 to February 2004. Arnold taught graduate programs in Publishing and Communications offered by NCAS. His current teaching includes courses such as Com 4001/5001: Researching and Writing Australia and Com 4008: Media Ethics and Practice. He also supervises students undertaking Com 5004: Industry Research Project and is experienced in supervising both Masters and Doctoral theses. Arnold strives to engage and motivate students in his chosen subjects, encouraging them to think independently rather than strictly adhere to a reading list. In 2008, he shared a position as a Visiting Lecturer in Australian Studies at the University of Copenhagen, collaborating with colleague Dr. Jeff Jarvis. Over the years, he has led numerous projects related to Australian literature and cultural studies, focusing on the intersection of digital humanities and literary narrative studies.
