Biography

John Beaton is an Associate Professor at the University of Guelph, primarily teaching Relational Psychotherapy Training programs within the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences. His current research interests focus on families, children, disabilities, chronic health conditions, and men's health. He is actively involved in the Campus Student Mental Health Advisory Committee and teaches courses on Solution Focused Therapy and Health & Well-Being. A Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, Beaton's clinical research includes men's health, fatherhood, and special needs children. He is a Co-Principal Investigator in the Community Action Research Project addressing men's health and fatherhood concerning cancer, aimed at engaging men, families, and communities. Additionally, he collaborates on father involvement research and serves as Co-Coordinator for the Fathers of Special Needs Cluster group. His recent endeavors involve examining the narratives of fathers raising autistic children. Beaton has authored numerous publications in social science journals and books, contributing valuable insights into fatherhood, co-parenting, and community interventions.
