Biography

John Behr is a researcher associated with TRIUMF and holds a position as an Adjunct at the UBC Department of Physics and Astronomy. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Physics at Caltech in 1983 and obtained his Doctoral degree from the University of Washington in 1991, where his research focused on isospin mixing in giant dipole resonances under the guidance of advisor Kurt Snover. His postdoctoral experience includes positions at SUNY Stony Brook and Simon Fraser University, where he worked primarily on laser traps for radioactive atoms and contributed to advancements in the study of Subatomic Physics. His current research involves the development and application of laser trapping techniques to create table-top apparatuses for testing the electroweak interaction in the Standard Model. Behr is particularly engaged in using polarizing atom techniques to investigate fundamental physics questions, such as time-reversal violation and the properties of weak neutral current effects using francium atoms. He aims to extend the accuracy of measurements related to beta asymmetry to search for new physics beyond the Standard Model.
