Dr. John Blaikley

Biography

John Blaikley is a clinician scientist at the University of Manchester, focusing on the role of circadian biology in human disease. He trained in medicine and physiology at University College London, where he began his research career by investigating protein levels that indicate renal dysfunction during cardiac surgery. In 2007, he secured a Medical Research Council (MRC) clinical research training fellowship, which he utilized to further explore chronobiology. His notable achievements include being named the British Thoracic Society's young investigator of the year in 2010, which enabled him to secure a clinical lecturer position that balanced clinical training with his research. Blaikley has led investigations into how circadian rhythms affect diseases such as lung transplantation, pulmonary infections, and COVID-19.
