Biography

John F. Brady is a Chevron Professor of Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He obtained his B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1975, followed by an M.S. from Stanford University in 1977 and a Ph.D. in 1981. Brady has served in various capacities at Caltech, including Associate Professor from 1985 to 1989, Professor from 1990 to 1999, and Chevron Professor since 1999. He has also held the position of Executive Officer for Chemical Engineering between 1993-1999 and again from 2013 to 2019. His research focuses on fluid mechanics and transport processes, particularly in relation to complex multiphase fluids. Notable areas of interest include interface continuum mechanics and statistical mechanics. Brady has developed Stokesian Dynamics, a novel computational method for understanding the relationship between material microstructure and macroscopic properties.
