Biography

John currently serves as the Executive Director of the Manitoba Law Reform Commission. He is a staff member of the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. John graduated with a BA in Criminal Justice and earned his LLB (JD) from Robson Hall Law School in 2010. He was called to the bar in 2011 and completed his LLM at Osgoode Hall in 2015. As a peer reviewer for the Manitoba Law Journal since 2016 and a published author, he possesses extensive experience in law. Previously, he was the Chief of Staff for the Winnipeg Police Service and worked as a Crown Attorney and Associate Risk Manager, having served as a police officer for 25 years in areas such as commercial crimes, hate crimes, and major crimes. John is a member of several boards, including the Manitoba Human Rights Commission and the Winnipeg Police Museum. He has received multiple accolades for his service, including being an Officer of the Order of Merit from the Governor General of Canada in September 2024 and the Historical Preservation Promotion Award from the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba in September 2020.
