Biography

John Chalcraft is a renowned professor specializing in Politics, with a focus on Modern Middle Eastern History. He graduated with an M.A. Hons in History from Gonville Caius College, Cambridge in 1992. Following this, he pursued post-graduate studies at prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Oxford, and New York University, ultimately receiving his doctorate with distinction in Modern History of the Middle East in January 2001. Chalcraft held a Research Fellowship at Caius College from 1999 to 2000 and subsequently served as a Lecturer in Modern Middle Eastern History at the Department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at Edinburgh University from 2000 to 2005. Currently, he is a Professor in the Department of Government at the London School of Economics. His research and teaching interests include the politics and history of the modern Middle East, and he teaches courses such as GV248: Power Politics in the Modern World: Comparative Perspectives and GV4F2: Popular Politics in the Middle East.
