Biography

John Chaplin is an Associate Professor and Health Psychologist at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg. He has received training from Warwick and Cranfield universities and possesses extensive experience in the development and assessment of patient-reported outcome measurement (PROM) tools for both children and adults. He has worked extensively on multinational projects related to quality-of-life issues in children, including the DISABKIDS and Kidscreen projects, and has led a European group investigating the empowerment of children and families in clinical trials arising from the EU Paediatric Regulation. Additionally, he has experience supervising postgraduate students in Sweden, China, and Germany. Currently, he is leading projects at the Centre for Person-Centred Care in Gothenburg, focusing on developing tools to aid healthcare staff in evaluating healthcare provisions based on principles of person-centred care. He is involved in the translation and implementation of patient-reported outcome systems within the Swedish healthcare registries. He lectures on Global Public Health at the University of Gothenburg, specializing in statistics and health research, while also supervising medical public health students. As a member of several international organizations, including the International Society for Quality of Life (ISOQOL), he serves as the current chair of the Child-Special Interest Group and is the PROMIS National Coordinator (PNC) for Sweden. Chaplin has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to a book on patient empowerment in clinical trials.
