Biography

John Clarke graduated from Queen's University, Belfast in 1965 and obtained an M.A. in historical geography from the University of Manitoba in 1966. He completed his doctorate, followed by a post-doctoral year at the University of Western Ontario, between 1966 and 1970. Clarke joined Carleton University in 1971, where he has been teaching courses in historical geography. His research primarily focuses on historical geography in pre-Confederation Canada, with particular emphasis on Upper Canada. Areas of interest include land policy, land prices, perceptions of land quality, and the intersection of ethnicity and land claims, as well as the ideology surrounding these issues.
