John D. Cressler is a Regents Professor and the Schlumberger Chair in Electronics at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He received his B.S. degree in Physics from Georgia Tech in 1984 and went on to work at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, focusing on high-speed Silicon-Germanium (SiGe) microelectronic devices. Dr. Cressler furthered his studies at Columbia University, obtaining M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Physics in 1987 and 1990, respectively. After leaving IBM in 1992 to become a professor, he joined Auburn University and later returned to Georgia Tech in 2002. His research interests include the development and application of silicon-based bandgap-engineered microelectronic devices and high-speed electronics for 21st-century communications systems. He has published over 700 technical papers and authored five non-fiction books, as well as historical fiction novels. Outside of academia, he enjoys wine collecting, cooking, gardening, fly fishing, mushroom foraging, and hiking.
